About Our Leadership

With over 30 years of experience in executive leadership, financial management, and real estate operations, Ms. Joy K. Nakagawa leads Starts U.S. offices in Hawaii and North America. As President of Starts Corporation’s U.S. subsidiaries, she oversees real estate investments, property management, and leasing operations across Hawaii, California, and Texas.

Ms. Nakagawa joined Starts Corporation in 1996 as Controller, later advancing to Vice President/Controller. She played a pivotal role in establishing the New York, San Jose, Toronto, and Dallas offices, driving the company’s growth through office expansion, subsidiary restructuring, and tax-saving strategies.

Before joining Starts, Ms. Nakagawa worked at Big Four Accounting Firm, Ernst & Young, LLP, providing tax solutions for industries such as real estate, hospitality, banking, and retail. She holds double B.A. degrees in Asian Studies and Japanese Language, an MBA from the University of Hawaii, a Certificate in Japanese Studies from Keio University, where she studied as a recipient of the Japanese Ministry of Education Scholarship.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and licensed real estate broker in Hawaii, New York, and California, Ms. Nakagawa also holds a Forensic Accounting Competency Certificate and a second-degree black belt in Kendo.

Outside of work, she enjoys scent training with her Border Collie-Poodle mix, Naru, with the goal of contributing to Hawaii’s environmental conservation, guided by the principle of Mālama ka ‘aina.

30年以上にわたる経営リーダーシップ、財務管理、不動産運営の経験を持つ中川ジョイ・K（Ms. Joy K. Nakagawa）は、スターツグループのアメリカ・ハワイオフィスをはじめ、北米地域のオフィスを率いています。スターツコーポレーションのアメリカ子会社の社長として、ハワイ、カリフォルニア、テキサスにおける不動産投資、プロパティマネジメント、リース業務を監督しています。

中川氏は1996年にスターツコーポレーションにコントローラーとして入社し、その後、バイスプレジデント兼コントローラーに昇進しました。ニューヨーク、サンノゼ、トロント、ダラスオフィスの設立において重要な役割を果たし、オフィスの拡張、子会社の再編成、税務戦略を通じて企業の成長を牽引してきました。

スターツに入社する前は、四大会計事務所の一つであるアーンスト・アンド・ヤング（Ernst & Young,LLP）で税務ソリューションを提供しており、不動産、ホスピタリティ、銀行、リテール業界を含むさまざまな業種に対応していました。彼女はアジア研究および日本語のダブルB.A.を持ち、ハワイ大学でMBAを取得、また慶應義塾大学で日本研究の修了証書を取得しています。彼女は日本の文部科学省奨学金を受けて、慶應義塾大学で学びました。

公認会計士（CPA）であり、ハワイ、ニューヨーク、カリフォルニア州の不動産ブローカーとしてのライセンスも保持しています。また、フォレンジック会計の認定証を取得しており、剣道の二段黒帯を有しています。

仕事以外では、ボーダーコリーとプードルのミックス犬、ナル（成る）とともに嗅覚訓練を楽しんでおり、ハワイの環境保護活動に貢献することを目指しています。この活動は「マラマ・カ・アイナ」（土地を大切にする）の精神に基づいています。
